The Istanbul Disaster Prevention and Education Centre, designed by Riccardo Mariano, was intended to be a “reflection of earth-related phenomena”. But when a building looks that incredible it doesn’t even matter what it’s about.

The roof of each ‘flap’ is the same gravel material as the surrounding floor, which makes the building look as though Funky Satan himself has accidentally punched a hole in his ceiling. The coloured light fades and cycles through the spectrum, and looks awesome surrounded by a concrete city.
