Opening a new browser tab is something most of us do every day, several times a day. For us, computer-bound professionals, “Ctrl (or Cmd) + T” has become a reflex. Tab, a new Chrome extension aims to exploit this habit to introduce you to potential dates.

We wanted to bring serendipity back to dating, and saw the dead space that people normally have when they open a Chrome tab, as the perfect place to do this.

To use Tab, install the extension, and sign up using Facebook. Every time you open a new tab, you will find a potential match in the bottom right corner. You can click on their picture to view their bio and more pictures, and let them know you like them by clicking the heart – the equivalent of swipe right, for Tinder addicts.

You can also personalise your profile within tab, add more pictures from your Facebook albums, a short bio, and choose your preferences. Our main regret is that those settings only offer cisgendered choices at the moment. Although, when asked, co-founder Shib Hussain, confirmed they were considering opening gender identity options in future updates.

The user interface is deliberately discreet. Should you want to, you can use Tab as a nice wallpaper for your browser, without having to deactivate the extension. You can also completely mute notifications.

Tinder, happn, etc. are considered activities. You have to go out of your way and open the app. With Tab, we’re always there, fitting in and around your web behaviour.

For city workaholics, Tab could be the solution to find a partner, just by getting on with your daily workflow.

Time optimisation or procrastination? We’ll let you sole judges of that…
