If the sound of ringing fills you with dread this working concept might be of interest to you. User ‘jamesmyboy’ on Instructables has published a custom made mobile phone while spending time in the Seeed offices in China that explores a new kind of notification, one that implores not sight or touch, but smell.

James designed every part of the phone. The casing is laser cut and 3D printed to enclose a custom designed PCB. The phone is pretty standard, apart from an extra peripheral that pokes from the top. It’s not a miniature 90’s webcam, but a spray, similar to that found in electronic scent dispensers.

Drops are injected into the scent expeller using a syringe. When a phone call is received the device is activated, emitting the smell. Different scents can be used, but perfume suits him best, apparently, so he can be relaxed by the thought of his girlfriend as a call from his boss comes in.
