Tamagotchi Evolved

Posted 28th Oct 2012

In the good ol’ days children would learn about the wonders of the natural world via a monster in an electronic keychain. Times change. Now days kids want sour dough.

Mint Digital have taken the idea of the Tamagotchi and totally thought outside the box. And then opened the box and poured sour dough into it. Dough Globe is a funky palm-sized toy designed to grow sour dough. The child (or excitable adult) is tasked to keep the dough alive by turning the globe which folds the dough.

Ethanol sensors monitor the life force and beam it at a computer via Bluetooth which converts the whole thing into a little video game. The healthier the sour dough is the healthier the game character.

Creative director Utku Can says “Mostly, the purpose is just to have fun. But it does teach kids to look after a living thing and the responsibility of that.”

I’m not sure how much they’d learn, but unlike the household cat, no one would mind if you ate it.
