League of Legends – World Championship 2012
As well as being a coder, blogger and a self confessed geek, I’m a gamer and my favorite game for a while has been League of Legends or LOL for short. For all who are unaware of this game, its a free multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games for Microsoft Windows (sorry mac users), inspired by the popular Defense of the Ancients map for Warcraft III.
If you have not played it check it out, however be warned this game will suck your time!
LOL is now the biggest game in the world with over 32 million monthly active players (Info Graphic) and Riot has huge ambitions to make it the biggest in eSports. For the last 10 days starting on the 4th October Riot kicked off Season Two World Championship where the best 12 teams in the world battled for a share of a $2,000,000 prize pool. That’s not a typo, a cool $2 million for playing a game for a few hours. The Championship wrapped up over the weekend with the last two teams, Taipei Assassins & Azubu Frost battling it out for the first place prize of $1 million and the coveted title of League of Legends Season Two World Champion.
