Lightest Indoor Remote Control Plane

Posted 6th Oct 2012

Indoor RC planes aren’t new, but the Carbon Butterfly is definitely the most beautiful. The plane was meticulously designed to fly as slow as possible. To achieve a slow enough speed the propeller must turn as slow as possible, and to provide enough power the plane’s weight must be as small as possible. At 3 grams I don’t think they could have done any better.

The state of the art components help. For example, the RC receiver (the circuit board that takes the commands from the remote control) is the lightest in the world. And the actuator (the thing that moves the flaps) weighs only 0.22 grams!

But at $159 (£98) this plane aint cheap. Then again, this isn’t comparable to mini RC helicopters – this is a big boy’s toy.
