Nuance the company whose speech technology is the foundation of Apple’s Siri has announced their own virtual assistant called Nina with ambitions of becoming “your virtual assistance for mobile customer service”.

This is a sexy name and is the abbreviation of Nuance Interactive Natural Assistant (not so sexy). As you may have gleaned the company uses their own speech technologies, intent and an understanding of natural language that not only understands what is said but can also identify who is saying it.

Nuance suggest that this technology is about “enabling natural conversational interactions with the click of a button or touch of a screen”.
