The loveable robot toy that everyone loved to hate in the 90’s is back!

I was the one child in school who didn’t have one, but now with a job I can buy Furby 2.0 myself, in the name of robots of course. And what excellent robotic engineering it is, with a bunch of new sensors, LED eyes and integration into mobile devices.

Some of it’s features include:

  • An accelerometer which reacts to movement
  • Speech recognition
  • Music┬árecognition, to which it can dance and sing along in time to
  • A mobile app that will let owners chuck food into the Furby’s mouth
  • A number of servos for movement

It’s also probably important to note that there still isn’t an off switch or volume control. So if you do buy one don’t be surprised to come home to it skinned alive, drowned or otherwise murdered.

The new Furby will be released in Autumn for around $60. No news yet on a UK/ Europe release date/ price but we’ll keep you posted.
